Mora Clock Description

This antique Mora clock is dated 1812 and originates from Hälsingland, a region of Sweden known for some of the most vivid and distinctive folk art clock painting of the period. The case is hand-carved with decorative detailing, and the body is painted with flower branches set against a striking blue background — a color and motif combination characteristic of Hälsingland workshops, and noticeably different from the paler creams and whites more commonly seen on Mora clocks from Dalarna.

The dial carries Arabic numerals and is signed "And Erson / Mora," a maker's inscription that gives this clock documented attribution rather than the anonymous origin most surviving folk art Mora clocks have. The clock retains its original 7-day, two-weight pendulum mechanism in full working order, with an hourly bell chime, exactly as it would have operated in a Swedish farmhouse over two centuries ago.

Standing 213.5cm (84.1") tall, with a depth of 20cm (7.87"), it has a notably slender footprint that suits narrower hallways and stairwells without losing the dramatic height these clocks are known for.

We source our Mora clocks directly from Swedish estates and ship worldwide, including to the USA with a custom-built crate, full insurance, and door-to-door delivery (2–3 week transit, $600 all-in).

Why a Hälsingland Mora clock stands apart

Most antique Mora clocks on the market today come from Dalarna, painted in the soft pastel palette that's become the style's signature look. A Hälsingland clock like this one, with its bolder blue ground and distinct floral painting, represents a regional variation that's harder to find and offers real visual contrast for collectors who already own a Dalarna-style piece.

Mora Clock Set-Up

The setting up of a Mora Clock is relatively straightforward and we provide a set of instructions with the clock. Essentially the weights are hung at the end of the 2 chains/cords and the pendulum is attached. By swinging the pendulum the clock would then start. The mechanisms are 7 day working mechanisms which means that the Mora Clock should be rewound one per week.
