Product Information

Depth: 26cm / 10.2"
Height: 212cm / 83.5"
Product Description:
This Rococo Mora clock is dated 1777 and signed by its maker, Anders Swensson — a rare combination for a Swedish longcase clock of this age, since most surviving Mora clocks from the period carry no firm date or attribution at all. A dated, named clock like this gives collectors something most antique Mora clocks can't: documented provenance straight from the case itself.
The clock displays the classic Rococo Mora silhouette: a curved, narrow-waisted body with an elaborately carved crown above the hood, and its original painted decoration intact across the case. The mechanism is original and in full working order — a traditional 7-day, two-weight pendulum movement with an hourly bell chime, the same type of clockwork these clocks were built with over two centuries ago.
Standing 212cm (83.5") tall, with a width of 52cm (20.4") and depth of 26cm (10.2"), it's proportioned for a hallway, stairwell, or living room corner where its height and silhouette can be appreciated from across the room.
As with all our Mora clocks, this piece is sourced directly from a Swedish estate and shipped with a custom-built crate, full insurance, and door-to-door delivery, including to the USA (2–3 week transit, $600 shipping all-in).
Why an 18th-century dated Mora clock matters:
Most Mora clocks reaching the market today date from the 1800s. A signed, dated example from 1777 places this clock firmly in the earliest documented era of Mora clockmaking — making it a meaningfully rarer find than the 19th-century examples that dominate most dealers' stock, including the majority of our own collection.
Mora Clock Set-Up
The setting up of a Mora Clock is relatively straightforward and we provide a set of instructions with the clock. Essentially the weights are hung at the end of the 2 chains/cords and the pendulum is attached. By swinging the pendulum the clock would then start. The mechanisms are 7 day working mechanisms which means that the Mora Clock should be rewound one per week.
