Mora Clock Details

This antique Swedish Mora clock dates from the 1800s and combines two folk-craft traditions in one case — hand-painted decoration with gold detailing, alongside carved ornamentation throughout. The dial bears classic Roman numerals, and the clock takes the elegant hourglass silhouette of the Scandinavian longcase clock, the Swedish counterpart to the grandfather clock. The blend of gilded painting and woodcarving makes it a refined example of 19th-century Swedish craftsmanship.

The clock retains a working longcase movement with pendulum and two weights, striking a bell chime on the hour. It is a traditional 7-day mechanism, rewound once a week, with full set-up instructions included.

At 200cm (78.7") tall, this is also the most substantial model in our current range — a genuine statement piece for a hallway or entrance with the ceiling height to suit it.

About this style of Mora Clock

Mora clocks combining hand-painting and carved decoration represent one of the finer expressions of Swedish folk craftsmanship, where two distinct decorative traditions were brought together by skilled artisans into a single piece — rather than relying on paint or carving alone.

Mora Clock Set-Up

Setting up a Mora clock is straightforward, and full instructions are included with the clock. The two weights are hung at the end of their chains/cords, and the pendulum is attached. Swinging the pendulum starts the clock running. The mechanism is a 7-day movement, meaning the clock needs winding once a week.
