Mora Clock Description

This antique Swedish Mora clock dates from the 19th century and shows the elegant white and gold palette that became popular in Sweden as Gustavian and neoclassical tastes spread beyond wealthier households into the rural clockmaking tradition. The hood features hand-carved detailing to the crown, and the body carries the white ground with gilded accents that give this style its refined, formal look compared to the more rustic, colorfully painted folk art Mora clocks of the same period.

The dial uses Arabic numerals and shows later repainting, a common occurrence on Mora clocks that were repainted by a subsequent generation of owners — a detail we note for transparency, as is our practice with every clock we list. The case carving and overall form remain original to the piece.

The clock retains its original 7-day, two-weight pendulum mechanism with an hourly bell chime, in full working order. At 222cm (87.4") tall, it's on the taller end for Mora clocks and makes a substantial statement piece for an entryway or stairwell, while its 23cm (9.1") depth keeps it manageable in narrower spaces.

We source our Mora clocks directly from Swedish estates and ship worldwide, including to the USA with a custom-built crate, full insurance, and door-to-door delivery (2–3 week transit, $600 all-in).

Why a white and gold Mora clock works in a modern interior

The pale, gilded finish on this style of clock pairs naturally with Gustavian, French country, and contemporary neutral interiors, making it one of the more versatile Mora clock styles to place in a home that mixes antique and modern furniture.

Mora Clock Set-Up

The setting up of a Mora Clock is relatively straightforward and we provide a set of instructions with the clock. Essentially the weights are hung at the end of the 2 chains/cords and the pendulum is attached. By swinging the pendulum the clock would then start. The mechanisms are 7 day working mechanisms which means that the Mora Clock should be rewound one per week.
