Mora Clock Details

This is a collectible signed antique Swedish Mora clock, bearing the clockmaker's initials "BEOS" — a direct link to the individual craftsman who built it in the workshops of the Mora region of Dalarna, Sweden. Signed examples like this are particularly sought after, as the maker's mark adds provenance that unsigned clocks lack. The case is decorated with hand-painted floral detailing in the traditional Swedish folk-art style, and takes the classic hourglass silhouette of the Scandinavian longcase clock — the Swedish counterpart to the grandfather clock.

The clock retains a working longcase movement with pendulum and two weights, striking a bell chime on the hour. It is a traditional 7-day mechanism, rewound once a week, with full set-up instructions included.

About this style of Mora Clock

Mora clocks were produced as a rural cottage industry in the town of Mora, Sweden, from the mid-18th century onward. Farming families who trained as clockmakers in Stockholm brought those skills home, combining painting, woodcarving, and clockmaking — and in some cases, signing their work, as the maker of this clock did.
